*WARNING* The following post may be offensive to some Americans, especially those sensitive to the 2001 attacks. If such is the case, you can skip this post.
Today is a day that initially was right in commemorating a tragic event. But as the years past, I slowly got more and more irritated. I have never come across any major tragedy that has garnered so much attention and publicity as the WTC attacks.
I get it. And I feel for the victims and their families. Life really won’t be the same again. I do feel bad. But how long do we have to endure all this and mourn? Does America want to be known as the country that’s still licking its wounds instead of moving on and showing their strength and unity?
And yea, this just further gives people an excuse to alienate and discriminate against Arabs and/or Muslims. There were Muslims killed in this tragedy too – American and Arab alike. And what about Hurricane Katrina? Do you see the victims harping on about it every year? No, they’ve picked up whatever is left of their lives and moving on. For that matter, thousands of people get killed on a daily basis in war zones like Palestine/Israel, Afghanistan, Africa and even Jhammu and Kashmir. Do you see them commemorating every year that their families got sliced and diced?
I want to reclaim this date and remember and call it September 11th, instead of 9/11. Enough is enough. Move on instead of cribbing about it every year, and making the rest of the world miserable.
