I decided to do something a little proactive and placed a personals ad. My inbox is quite flooded, and most are rather tacky replies. Some are interesting. And then I came across one that was rather mean, without a return address. Saying that my ad was rather pathetic, and dissected each and every word I wrote into a rather mean thing. Ouch. It did affect me a little.
What I don't understand is why people have to be so mean. If you don't like it, don't reply back. And if I don't like a reply, I simply delete them. Whatever happened to the saying: "If you have nothing good to say, say nothing."?
And even though I wasn't born in an English-native country, nor have a nationality, I cannot speak any other language other than English. Is it so wrong to ask that I'd prefer someone who speaks decent English? Just because I'm desi, I'm mocked at not knowing Hindi and speaking English like some foreign-born brat. I sometimes think I'm just another Oreo cookie - brown outside, but white inside. A rather pissed off one.

I agree with you. Sometimes when I read a "news" article on some celebrity and people can leave comments at the end of it I am shocked at the vitriol in the comments that people leave. It makes me sick to the stomach. If people think mean thoughts, so be it. But why put those thoughts out there. It is a bit confronting to think the community is full of such nastiness.
And what is wrong with being a little discerning with what you want in a person? Nothing at all.
Well the person obviously had a lot of time on their hands and decided to pick on you. Don't be bothered by it! By the way, Oreos are really yum :))

People suck. Anyone who would do such a thing obviously does not know you, nor wants to, so thier BS doesn't mean a thing, or shouldn't. Be careful, and don't give mean emails another thought. And I'm sorry I haven't been on lately, but my bloglines is acting up and not alerting me to new posts written! But it only does it to some folks and not all. Weird. I need to switch to another feed.
