A Few Things...

Today was a rather lazy day. Slept very late with a throbbing headache behind my right eyeball and a kink in my right shoulder and neck. But woke up feeling better to Mom coming home with steaming hot Aloo Parathas from Shop n Save. Had brekkie with her, talked a bit and pretty much lazed the rest of the day.

Until I realized I ran out of 'napkins' and convinced mom to go finish the rest of her weekly shopping at Lulu. So we went at around 12 - perfectly empty as most places are during Friday prayers. Which is why I prefer doing any shopping that time. I know, how religious of me (sarcy smile).

Now here are a few lines that my mom says that makes my radar go on overdrive. Do not trust her when she says the following - because it will just be the opposite:

1) "Betaaaaaa...." - be extremely careful when she stretches that word. The more she stretches it, the more likely it will be for a request/favor that I don't want to do.

2) "Mayyyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" - see #1. Even deadlier when both are combined together.

3) "I just need five minutes" - it will definitely be not less than half an hour.

4) "I just need to go to XYZ" - and once you're in the car, it will also be the bank, foreign exchange, tailor, grocery, and just when you think she's done, then the gold souq, Emaar, etc until you hijack her back home. If she adds #3 as well, then you know it's a day's worth of chauffeuring.

5) "Let's just take a quick look" - like #3 and #4, be prepared to be stuck in the store for a good one hour. If she heads to the lingerie section, run the opposite direction.

6) "Why don't you try this on?" - See #5 if it includes stretching of innerwear up in the light for everyone to see.

7) "Can I check my mail?" - this request generally comes at the time when I'm either in the middle of something on my computer, or when I'm watching an 18+ movie (not porn - more like art movies).

8) "I just have one or two things to pick up" - this is atleast 5-10 items, all bukly and heavy. Be very, very, scared when she says that.

Mom's quirks aside, I spoke to JT again. It's always wonderful when I get to speak to him. The 6th is just a few days away and I'm very excited. I'm turning all soppy and mushy now. Even friends have noticed it - apparently I sound 'girly' now.

What I feel is intense. It worries me too. It happened so quick - what if it dies out? What if its a sham? What if he gets bored or tired of me? What if? All of this is in my head. My past experiences haunt me. I don't want to be taken for a ride or made a fool of. And yet a part of me feels this is different. But the other part doesn't trust my gut - it's let me down so many times before. How do I know what's right? What if he turns out just like everyone else? It would crush me.

I'm scared. It feels so good, but I'm frightened.

It's good to be on your guard, but that is what dating is for, to get to know someone, and see if you are both compatible enough to make something out of it. No rush, just take it slow. He sounds like a nice guy, but it shouldn't be rushed. If it is, there might be something wrong. So tread lightly and carry a big stick... Just some wise words from your Auntie Karen.

Don't let "what if's" stop you from enjoying life. Trust me, there are no guarantees in life no matter how careful you are.

Oh, your mum sounds like me. Dear me, especially the "I just need to go to XYZ". When I say that my son goes into whinge mode.

Bridget used to ask herself similar questions in the past. Now she has this to say: Carpe diem! Chill, and live in the moment. Enjoy the happiness you feel with TJ, if it works out long term, great! If it does not, you will have had a blast and made beautiful memories to look back on!
